Masterfit is an organization that's dedicated to bootfitting and bootfitters, and by extension, dedicated to skier performance and comfort improvement. Masterfit's goal is simply to make boots fit better. Founded and led by long-time ski industry entrepreneur and former Ski magazine editor Steve Cohen and legendary bootfitter and insole inventor Jeff Rich (who would've been on the Top 15 list if it weren't for his Masterfit owner status), Masterfit's influence on snowsports continues to grow.
Masterfit University is the organization's educational outreach program, teaching bootfitting courses in the United States since 1994 and now offering workshops in Australia and Europe. These courses are attended by shop technicians, owners and managers as well as by ski instructors and medical practitioners. Look for Masterfit University diplomas prominently displayed at better bootfitting shops across the country. www.masterfituniversity.com
A long-time partner with Ski Magazine in conducting the industry's most thorough boot product tests, this year's Ski & Skiing magazine boot test at Mt. Bachelor was a homecoming of sorts as the very first on-snow Ski magazine boot test conducted by Rich and Cohen was held at Mt. Bachelor in 1988.
Masterfit's goal of partnering with Ski and Skiing to provide the best possible bootfitting information to skiers also serves their affiliated bootfitting specialty retailers who make up the team at America's Best Bootfitters which in turn helps skiers who can find quality bootfitting help in their neck of the woods. Many of the bootfitters on this Top 15 list are ABB member shops, but not all. But the ABB shops and member bootfitters you do find listed here share a preference for Masterfit's insole products, like Instaprint high-definition custom footbeds, semi-custom Zapz microwavable footbeds and the company’s new scissor-fit EZ Fit insoles.
