Jillian Miranda (22, Cleveland, Ohio) is a design student at Kent State University as well as a competitive skier. Here, she begins draping the pattern for her jacket design on the mannequin. The designers were allowed to use whatever materials and accessories they wanted while creating their jackets. 686 provided all the materials, which were gathered from their factories’ cutting-room floors from both current and past design seasons.
“The designers are given about 25 rolls of fabric to chose from and about 25 warranty pieces to deconstruct,” Cusic said. The only material limitation was that the fabrics were not restocked throughout the competition.
