Shooting any professional athlete is such an honor. I honestly couldn't work without the professional athletes I call on to shoot. No other relationship has risen to the level of the one I have with Olympic Gold Medalist and two-time overall World Cup Champion, Lindsey Vonn. I first met Lindsey and Thomas (her husband and coach) in Vancouver just after she had signed to be sponsored by Vail. This was before the Olympics and all of the international frenzy that followed her win at the Vancouver games. For this shoot, I was asked by Vail to create a studio environment - something totally foreign to me - and conduct a full day of fashion and portrait photography. To say I was nervous is to say Lindsey can ski fast. I had no idea what I was doing. With a little help from a friend who shoots studio work in Kansas, I built what looked like a NYC studio in a day. The shoot went great - Lindsey is just as good in front of the camera as she is on skis. She made my job - like all professional athletes do - so, so easy.
