Best Gear for Fall
First Ascent Sirocco Wind Shell Jacket

At first glance, the Sirocco seems too light and too minimalist to be effective but those properties are exactly why the jacket is so useful. It packs down to almost nothing (and weighs almost nothing) so throw it in your back pocket or pack when you’re out cruising around town or the mountains. If the wind picks up even slightly, throw it on and be amazed at how much more comfortable you feel without adding the extra bulk of a sweatshirt or full rain shell. From hanging around camp, to summiting a 14er, to watching a late fall baseball game, the Sirocco is the most surprisingly useful, and light layer you will ever own. $50, eddiebauer.com.
