Forgive my ignorance, but prior to this week, I had thought of Club Med as a bougie Cancun “Spring Break 2012 Baby!” type of experience. While I did spend the better part of four days as a freeloading journalist exploring the place with a slight champagne buzz, to my surprise, Club Med’s newest property in Valmorel, a lesser-known ski area near Val d'Isère, is actually a classy, family-oriented ski destination in the French Alps. Designed with activities and services for children of all ages (there’s childcare and a teen hangout), Club Med expects 70 percent of the business to be families in search of a ski holiday. Why? Because they say “all-inclusive” translates pretty well into “hassle-free” when vacationing with children. I’ll buy that. But with all-you-can-eat-and-drink, things can get freaky pretty easily too. Trust me. Here are the Cliff’s Notes from my visit.
