Under U.S. Ski Team coach Bob Beattie, Billy Kidd (left) and Jimmie Heuga became the first American men to win Olympic medals—silver and bronze, respectively, in the 1964 slalom at Innsbruck. Six years later, Heuga was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. He went on to found the Jimmie Heuga Center to battle MS.
