When we arrive at Fernie Wilderness Adventures’ lodge after a three-and-a-half-hour drive from Calgary, we are welcomed with an invitation from the staff. “There is a fire out back or have yourself a hot tub,” they tell us. The lodge has a wood-fired hot tub, generator-powered electricity, spring-fed water supply, and no cell phone or internet signals. At FWA, a cat-skiing lodge near Fernie, British Columbia, we are truly off the grid.
