Even veteran photographers such as Re Wikstrom stumble upon new bewitchment in the mountains every now and again. Wikstrom and a crew of “the raddest tele women I know” found themselves hip-deep in strangeness at heli-in, heli-out Icefall Lodge, north of Golden, B.C. “We discovered that the top layer of snow would stay in place on any evenly pitched or concave slope, but when it was piled up in pillow form, with nothing holding it in place, the top layer would just crack, like the top of a muffin.” Naturally “we chose our runs wisely,” Wikstrom says. “To this day it stands as one of my most favorite ski-trip experiences ever.”
