Does it seem like air bags just burst onto the scene? In a way, they have, thanks to a lot of publicity (lives saved) and the introduction of lower-priced systems from new manufacturers like BCA and Mammut/SnowPulse. But the German brand ABS has been out there since 1985. ABS’s are the most expensive systems, and the most refined as well (dual bags, pneumatic pull, nitrogen gas). But remember, there’s no substitute for good training and judgement.
