Heat on Demand – Columbia Electro Amp Core Vest
Photo: Keri Bascetta

A cold skier can slow a group down. The new Columbia Electro Amp Core Vest ($400; women’s model shown) will get every one up to speed. The heat is controlled by pushing an illuminated logo on the front. There are three settings: high, medium, and low. A wallet-size rechargeable lithium-ion battery lasts two to four hours. The vest also features Omni-Heat’s signature metallic-dot lining, which is the best heat-retention innovation we’ve seen in several seasons. A single charge should de-ice even the chronically frozen from first tracks to happy hour. After that, they’re on their own for staying warm. columbia.com

TIP >> Crank up the heat during early runs to loosen up, then back off as your body warms. You’ll save battery life—which you might need after your two-beer lunch.
