The Last Plateau: Smooth and Steady (Skiing)
Down-Unweighting
Photo: Jonathan Selkowitz

As the terrain tips up and gets bumpy, the forces acting on you get stronger. That means two things: First, you have to make your turns in shorter spaces and at higher speeds; second, you can’t release your edges by up-unweighting—as soon as you stand up, the forces will push you into the back seat or off your feet entirely. The solution: down-unweighting. Release your edges and tip your skis while your legs are flexed, rather than extended, under your body.
