Every test needs a guy in the pits, and for us, that’s binding technician Nate Miller. We found him at a ski shop—Jan’s in Park City—but he’s really a bike bum. The Nantucket native cobbles together part-time and temporary jobs as needed—bike tech, bartender, “lots of dirty work”—in order to chase the pro circuit as an endurance mountain biker. Miller has been turning screws and conscientiously minding our DINs for eight years. It’s a lot of responsibility, with our testers’ safety at stake, and in all that time we can’t recall a single pre-release.
