Rocker: A Cure For Nose Diving

Skis with rocker up front (sometimes called early rise or tip rocker) work better in deep snow than skis with traditional camber because the entire shovel curves upward, seeking the surface rather than diving underneath it. As a result you can make fast, big turns on top of the snow rather than getting bogged down in it. Until recently, rocker has primarily been built into wider skis, whose widths add to the skis’ ability to stay afloat in deep snow. Now, however, most companies are using blends in most skis.
