Ludlow, Lake Placid, Bethel, Jackson… Before they were ski towns, they were just towns, often a century old or more. Real places—with steeples and cemeteries, groceries and hardware stores, red brick and white clapboard—sometimes come with real blemishes that nouveau resorts don’t have. But there’s no faking authenticity.
