Where: Quincy, Calif.
When: July 5–8
Surround sound: Where did all the hippies go? To the High Sierra Music Festival—for the July 4th weekend. Tech folks from the valley also show for more than 17 hours of live music per day. Ben Harper, STS9 and Railroad Earth bring the love to what’s been dubbed the Woodstock of the 21st century.
Front row: Performers are known to camp with the public, so leave some extra room in your tent, just in case.
Cozy up: Communal camping; however, no drum circles allowed from 11 p.m. to 11 a.m.
Greenbacks: Weekend passes start at $160.
Don’t miss: Rio de Janeiro has its carnival and High Sierra its parade, Thursday to Saturday nights at 7:00. An inflatable astronaut and cycling bears (in costume) have been known to grace the grounds.
