A group of professional athletes sponsored by Black Diamond gathered at Brighton, Utah, recently to teach skills clinics to intermediate and advanced skiers on everything from skiing steeps to telemark skiing to using an avalanche beacon. We were there to get some pointers.

The Big Lepowski
Earlier this winter, Black Diamond and Backcountry.com organized an event called the Big Lepowski, which was a fundraiser for the late Billy Poole, a Black Diamond-sponsored skier. A group of professional athletes—including ski mountaineer Andrew McLean, big-mountain skier Jen Berg, cliff-hucker Julian Carr, and others—showed up at Brighton, Utah, to teach skills clinics to eager ski students, who ranged in ability from beginners to experts looking to jump their first cliff. They could sign up for morning and afternoon sessions taught by the pros. Here's what we learned that day.
