If grooming, high-speed lifts and fancy base amenities are the antithesis of "character," then Mad River Glen is its embodiment. The vaunted Single Chair, recently refurbished at great expense with no addition of uphill capacity, suits the MRG skier just fine, thank you. And as for the terrain—trees, bumps, bushes and icefalls—well, that builds character too.
