Outside the boot
Hanson Apex
Everyone (of a certain age) remembers the Hanson boot. Now Denny Hanson is back with a new project. The Apex ($1,500; apexsportsgroup.com) combines a light, rigid, carbon-fiber exoskeleton with a soft, walkable inner boot that easily separates from the frame. It’s a concept that’s been around, but Hanson’s iteration skis with some integrity—not as much as you get from a traditional overlap shell, but getting there.
