Trial Run - December 1999
Salomon Powderspike

These multifunctional boots add traction and power to snowshoes, but I also hiked straight up snowy slopes in them alone. Though quite sturdy, the Powderspikes were maneuverable, lightweight, and as comfortable as sneakers. With their waterproof-breathable liner and Thinsulate insulation, they kept me warm and dry when sloshing around in wet, slushy snow. Their one-pull lacing system nicely tightened the fit in key spots and was easy to use out in the cold. -- Iseult Devlin$130/Salomon/800-225-6850/www.salomonsports.com
