The test of a great cruising ski is its ability to stop cruising¿to shift rhythm mid-run and break into some fall-line fun. That's why the Salto is perhaps the best cruiser ever made: It's got the stability of a long-turner without the traditional heft. Start with the sidecut: It's shared by Rossignol's gold-medal-winning GS race ski and by its expert-focused Viper X 10.2. But in the Salto, a viscoelastic layer under the foot and a damp, Microcell core make the sweet spot huge and forgiving. A centrally located Dualtec construction¿cap on top, laminate below¿gives it plenty of edge on harder snow, too. It's a fun, elegant medium-to-long turner at a reasonable price.
