Salomon believes that many people who give up skiing -- particularly beginners and terminal intermediates -- do so because of painful boots. By introducing its new Verse series ($340-$385), the company hopes to keep those skiers in the sport. As easy on the feet as, well, a pair of snowboard boots, the Verse achieves its sublime level of comfort by using two materials in the shell: a soft synthetic at the instep and a rigid plastic chassis for support. And by replacing the lower two buckles with a single-pull lacing system, this footwear makes putting on flip-flops seem like hassle.
