Surefoot, the chain of boot specialists, has launched its own boot brand. If it looks like a Lange, that's because it is-at least in part. Surefoot buys shells from Lange and inserts its own foam-fit liners. There are four shells to choose from-Comp 120, FR 120, Comp 100 and CRL 80-covering a performance range from novice to expert. The difference in price is about $200-just a little more than you'd pay for a custom footbed (included), never mind the foam liner. How confident is Surefoot that the boot will fit comfortably? Enough to recommend that a skier visit one of its shops on the first day of vacation, buy a boot (it takes about 90 minutes) and expect to ski in comfort from the get-go. When was the last time you managed that with new boots?
