Pro K2 set out to build an ego-booster, and the 5 Com succeeds. It’s a new addition to the line—flagship of the Comanche series of easy all-mountain skis. A 72-mm waist gives it a measure of flotation in soft snow, but the 5 Com still cuts it on Eastern hardpack. A no-nonsense, one-piece plate provides lift and immediate response without muffling snow-feel. And while its deep, 14-meter sidecut (at 167 cm) serves up automatic arcs, it’s content to skid turns, too, until its pilot learns to tip and carve with more confidence. Most important, its metal-free construction won’t make excessive demands. The 5 Com was No. 2 in the category for Forgiveness, though there’s still a reasonable high end. "One of the smoother short-turners in the test," said Hochman. Con Heavier testers found it undynamic.
