Atomic Cloud Nine (2014)
The high-end model in the Cloud collection features a 74-mm waist and is designed to suit intermediate women who generally cruise the groomed runs. Extra fiberglass reinforcement makes it a little stiffer than the lower-priced Cloud 8, but otherwise the graphic is the only difference. The Cloud series of women's skis comprises a trio of ultra-value priced models from Atomic. All have soft, lightweight foam cores instead of stiffer, more durable wood. All are sold as systems (with bindings). All are rockered in the tip only, to smooth out terrain shocks and soften turn initiations. Women-specific design features include a V-shaped tapering of the sidecut (the narrower tail is easy to break free and skid at the end of the turn) and a slight lifting of the heel designed to reduce back strain and better suit a woman's physiology.
