PRO: Virtually identical to Atomic's top-of-the-line race boot, the Race Tech CS is comparatively roomier and softer flexing. Nevertheless, it's still quite stiff and close fitting. Fairly conventional in design, it lacks some of the niceties that make a boot easy to live with but nails the performance characteristics that make skiing it a thrill. Testers praised its quickness and power. For Lateral Response, it's one of the fastest in the category, and while it may be too stiff for some, hard-charging heavyweights will be pleased with its support and power. Even the buckles get it right: low-profile, rugged, functional. "An unqualified success," says Wax. "It's as precise as a race boot, but with a smooth flex that works with your anatomy." CON: Maddeningly short power strap is difficult to tighten.
