On the spectrum of East Coast snow conditions, the Magnum 8.5 is most at home on firm groomers: No. 1 in Hard-Snow Grip, No. 2 in Stability. It's such an eager, confidence-inspiring, cheater-GS carver that it shouldn't be expected to do much else. But throw in an 85-mm waist width and just a touch of rocker and it handles soft, uneven snow with sufficient ease. It's a strong ski for strong technicians, with a solid edge and a love of speed. Weak input won't inspire it, but when spurred by an aggressive expert, it comes to life. Notes: With tip and tail rocker and a waist wide enough for variable conditions, the 8.5 is designed for advanced experts who like to explore. Sandwich sidewall construction with a Spaceframe Titanal layer (with cutouts to reduce swing weight); full wood core. Sold flat.
