Pro What makes the Titan 9 one of the most powerful skis in the test? Must be the okoumé. OK, we’d never heard of it either, but okoumé is an African hardwood prized by boat builders for its strength-to-weight ratio. As a direct result or not, the Titan was prized by our testers for its utterly unflappable performance in whatever the mountain threw at it. If anything, they wished it were a little more flappable: It’s Blizzard-like in its power and precision, and stronger testers were its biggest fans. The Titan 9, like Blizzard’s even wider Titan Pro (95 mm underfoot), features sturdy vertical sidewalls, a wood core (also employing beech) and two thin sheets of Titanal that give it a damp, smooth ride without adding too much weight. "Strong platform," said Morgan. "Likes the fall line." Con Not for sissies: Lightweights may be overmatched.
