Elan Himalaya (2014)
Elan offers two models in its Touring line. Both are built with lightweight constructions for easy touring. The Himalaya is the fatter of the two at 95-98 mm in the waist (depending on length). It's a backcountry "freerider," with generous width and a rockered tip for deep-snow flotation. It weighs 1,450 grams. The Alaska Pro is the narrower of the two, and more a traditional, ultra-lightweight randonee ski, optimized for long tours with an extra-light construction and a 77-80 mm waist designed to handle any hard snow and ice the backcountry throws at it. It weighs just 1,140 grams. Both are full wood core constructions. Both have flat tails for backcountry utility and are designed to readily accept climbing skin attachments.
