Elan Spire (2012)
Tester's Review
Here's the Elan testers perennially wish they'd see more of. No disconcerting gimmicks or fancy constructions; just a classic wood-core layup with a judiciously rockered tip and a consistently responsive feel. Some griped that the Spire was overdamp and overbuilt, but others-mostly bigger guys-liked the solidity. No one mistook it for a spritely carver, but it holds its own in long arcs on flat snow, smoothes out the harbor chop confidently and has enough beam for all but the deepest days. "Not for the weak, but a powerful carver that will dice it up in the chunder when asked," said Elling.
