Hart Griffin (2013)

Hart Griffin (2013)

Fifty-six year-old brand Hart, despite having been out of production for a while and having gotten off to a sputtering restart, seems now to be rolling smoothly into the future. The big-mountain models we tested (Outback, Griffin, and Wizard) all impressed testers with their edge grip, flotation and handling abilities. At 125mm in the waist, the Griffin is the fat boy of the three-ski big-mountain series, and thus the most powder-specific model. Like the 115-mm Wizard (the series' middle-width ski), its unexpectedly powerful edge bite and grip surprised our testers. Skiers used to the predictability of traditional skis who want to add a powder ski to their quivers should consider the Griffin. Its core consists of bamboo members laminated vertically with strips of carbon and aluminum, construction that, according to Hart, results in stability and dampness at high speeds.
