Head RS 100 (2006)
Of the two Heads in the category, testers considered this the better match for most AMEs. Not only is it wider-100 mm across the forefoot-it's softer-flexing and generally more inclined to work well with soft snow and rough terrain. It's also more richly featured than the stripped-down RS 96. Head's clever Full Custom System, now in its second year, allows customization of the fit without punching and grinding. A plastic cradle that snaps into the shell can be removed-wholly or in part-to tweak the fit as needed. A shop employee can take the width from a C to a D-plus (or from 100 mm to about 103 at the forefoot) in a matter of minutes. And its performance? "Great boot," says Lawrence. "High energy, very precise."
