Head S8/W (2006)
Head's most successful boot in the test simply nails the Aspiring Expert category. The S8 combines soft flex, forgiving interior volume and fundamental skiability in a good looking boot that's well priced. Compared to the S10 (see AMC), it's appropriately softer flexing, but otherwise essentially the same. The levered buckle has been removed to control price, but its replacement-and all of the boot's hardware-is solid and sensible. And the S8 has an intuitive steerability combined with a reassuring rearward stiffness. Working in concert, those two qualities make it a perfect tool to help an Aspiring Expert stay forward and begin building good habits. "Hardware and liner quality is outstanding, and it'll drive any ski," says Denis.
PRICE (MSRP): $560.00
