K2 ShesBack (2013)
For the avid tele and ski mountaineering crowd, the Shesback is a lean, mean touring machine built for edge-to-edge quickness underpinned with the stability and bite of metal reinforcement for those times when the backcountry conditions aren't perfect. Like all the "Back" skis in K2's Backside collection of women's backcountry skis (Gotback, Talkback, Shesback), the emphasis is on light, efficient touring as much as it is on downhill performance, and most skis will be mounted with an AT binding. It's a metal-reinforced, wood-core (paulownia) cap construction, weighing in at 1,460 grams at 160 cm. K2's Speed Rocker combines 90 percent camber with 10 percent tip rocker to smooth the ride, enhance forgiveness and improve soft-snow flotation. Tip and tail hardware is removable, and the holes readily accept pre-cut K2 skins for touring. The Snowphobic topsheet, which is waxable, sheds snow on the ascent so it doesn't add to the work. The pink ribbon on the base signifies K2's support (at least $75,000 annually) for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
