K2 SuperFree (2014)

K2 SuperFree (2014)
Tester's Review

What makes the attractively priced Superfree the No. 1 ski for Forgiveness in the Value category? It’s light, thanks to the use of featherweight paulownia wood in the tip and tail. And it’s quick, thanks to it narrow, easy-carving waist width. But for all its easy accessibility, it doesn’t forget to have fun, and testers gave it the No. 2 Overall Impression score. Said one tester: “Playful, poppy, and forgiving. Exactly what an intermediate skier would appreciate.”

The returning SuperFree, with its easygoing performance and friendly 76-mm waist, is the top seller in K2's Supermodels series of frontside-oriented women's all-mountain system skis. It's a metal-free, wood-core, women's-specific K2 Bioflex2 construction, with aspen underfoot (70 percent) for strength and responsiveness and paulownia (30 percent) tip and tail for softer flex and reduced swing weight. HybriTech Sidewall construction combines a sturdy vertical sidewall underfoot for edge grip, lightweight cap fore and aft for supple flex. It's now available flat, but also still sold as a system with an integrated 10-DIN Marker/K2 ER3 binding. K2's All-Terrain Rocker combines 70 percent camber with 30 percent tip/shovel rocker to smooth the ride, enhance forgiveness and improve soft-snow flotation. Mod Technology features an independently acting secondary core, raised above the deck, to focus power transmission where needed and reduce vibrations for better edge grip and high-speed calm. The pink ribbon on the base signifies K2's support (at least $50,000 annually) for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
