Kastle FX94 (2012)
Gold Medal Gear
Rank: #2 In Mixed Snow
Tester's Review

Chris Davenport developed the FX line for ski mountaineering: light enough to slog to the summit and precise enough to nail no-fall zones. (It's positioned between the light and forgiving LX line and the burly MX.) It has a bomber construction-wood core, two sheets of metal, vertical sidewalls-that stays glued to the snow. With a single turn radius and phenol sidewall, it's a precise tool, but a rounded tail gives it a looser, freeridey feel. Dual Hollowtech-oval cutouts in the tip and tail-reduces swingweight, too. Stable and balanced-never flighty-it's versatile in every terrain. It thrives under aggressive, expert drivers, which figures for the only unisex ski in the category. Also of note: Its shortest length is 166 cm. "A stalwart ride," said Moscarella. Sold flat.

PRICE (MSRP): $1149.00
