Pro If you think about it, the 3-D medium of powder more closely resembles water than, say, the two-dimensional surface of packed snow. Wouldn’t it make sense to skim its surface on something akin to a water ski? That’s been superskier Shane McConkey’s thinking for a few years. Now he’s talked K2 into producing a ski that turns ski design on its head, with reverse camber and sidecut. K2 insisted that the Pontoon have just enough traditional sidecut underfoot to be controllable on packed snow. It is. Barely. But in powder it surfs and smears like no other ski. The 160-mm tip is irrepressibly buoyant, while the tail, which is narrower than the waist, skids and releases effortlessly. Sabanosh called it "the purest powder ski in the category. You can’t bury a tip if you try." Con Virtually useless on hardpack.
