Salomon Enduro RX 800 (2012)

Salomon Enduro RX 800 (2012)
Rank: #1 In Hard Snow
Tester's Review

Review: Compare to the XT 800 (see Hard Snow). Same shape, same wood-core construction with twin sheets of metal. But on the RX Salomon uses a cap construction instead of a vertical-sidewall laminate construction. So you'd expect it to be a little less demanding, and it is (No. 1 in Forgiveness). But it also holds its own on the hardpack, and because it's the widest in the category it's also No. 1 in both Flotation and Crud. (Rocker helps there, too.) "Energetic, easy to turn, entertaining," said Gleason. Notes: The RX 800 shares the same shape as the XT 800, but has a more forgiving construction. It's a frontside-oriented ski built for carve-ready performance on hard snow, but its width and rocker will keep it fun and loose in soft snow. It's a full-wood-core, vertical-sidewall, laminate construction with one sheet of reinforcing metal (the 850 gets two). Salomon's All-Terrain Rocker combines zero camber with a rockered tip, so it will be buoyant in soft snow and smooth-riding in rough terrain, yet still responsive on the groomed. The RX 800 is available flat or as a system ski with the Z12 binding, which has a maximum din of 12.
