Tester's Review

Most testers are over the twin-tip thing. They don't ski backwards much, and they prefer a flat tail to reef on in tight spots. Salomon makes plenty of twins, but wisely keeps the stern of the Sentinel nicely flat and square back there. You get the smooth ride of rocker up front-a Salomon hallmark-with a powerful finish to every turn. And with its vertical-sidewall sandwich construction (unusual for Salomon) and reinforced edges, it's as sturdy and surefooted as anything. "Moves with purpose through set-up snow; energetic and lively in rough terrain," said Gleason. Notes: The Sentinal is a sturdy, tip-rockered, no-nonsense construction built for big-mountain versatility on a 95 waist. It's perhaps the ideal Salomon to put an AT binding on for backcountry/touring applications. It's a vertical-sidewall, full-wood-core sandwich construction (a bit of a departure for monococque loving Salomon designers), so it's burly and plenty grippy. Salomon's All-Terrain Rocker combines zero camber with a rockered tip, so it will be buoyant in soft snow and smooth-riding in rough terrain, yet responsive on the groomed as well. Extra wide, reinforced edges are built to be extra durable. Pulse Pad technology-a strip of rubber over the edge-quiets vibrations. A flat tail gives the skier reassuring leverage in tight spots.
