Pro The company line doesn’t always jibe with the opinions of our testers. But here it does. Like all Salomons, the Tornado is a cap construction, with a shell that extends edge-to-edge over a wood core. The X-Wing Fury (see Free XL) uses a two-layer, or double-wall, cap. Here, Salomon employs a single-wall cap with stronger reinforcement for "more dynamic energy and rebound." And as it happens, the words "energy" and "rebound" appear on almost every test card—along with "snappy," "lightning quick" and "yee-haw." The Tornado is the most playful AME in the bunch, buoyant in soft snow, but a capable carver as well, especially in short- and medium-radius turns. "Light, nimble and cooperative," said Campbell, "and yet rock solid in crud at speed." Con Power-skiers will want more muscle and heft.
