BOULDER, Colorado (AP) - Jeremy Bloom, ranked second in last year's World Cup moguls standings, and a freshman on the University of Colorado's football team, will resume ski competition later this year.
"I met with coach (Gary) Barnett today about my ski schedule," Bloom said Tuesday. "I'm going to compete in a World Cup Dec. 19 in Finland before the bowl game."
Colorado is 7-3 and eligible for a post-season bowl game, and Bloom would miss some of the football practices in preparation for any bowl the team appears in.
Bloom entered Colorado last fall but didn't play football in order to further his skiing career at the World Cup and Olympic level.
He will miss three ski competitions due to his football obligations, which numerically will keep him from a successful title defense.
Because of college eligibility regulations prohibiting any product endorsements, Bloom will be unable to hire a coach and intends to merely keep up his skills.
"This weekend after the Iowa State game will be my first time on skis in seven months," Bloom said. "I'm just hoping that I'll pick it up quickly. It will be hard for me to improve from last year. This way I can just maintain and ski well this year."
