Makeup Downhill Set for Beaver Creek

Makeup Downhill Set for Beaver Creek

Advice

BEAVER CREEK, Colo. Dec. 3, 2003 (AP) -- A men's World Cup downhill ski race scheduled next week for Val d'Isere, France, has been moved to Beaver Creek, giving this mountain resort three races this weekend.

Officials said the race was moved because of warm weather in Val d'Isere and the difficulty of staging the event there.

The makeup downhill is scheduled for Friday, with the regularly scheduled downhill set for Saturday and a super-G on Sunday.

Officials also canceled a scheduled downhill training run on Wednesday because of delays in the delivery of competitors' skis from Canada.

A majority of the racers' skis were to be delivered by truck from Lake Louise, Alberta, where the skiers competed last weekend, to Beaver Creek for this weekend's races.

The skis, however, were not delivered until early Wednesday afternoon, too late for the day's planned training run.

Another downhill training run was set for Thursday.
