Hurting for an early-season ski fix? Loveland Ski Area in Colorado, the first area to open in the country, has exactly what ails you.

As of Oct. 24, Loveland has one lift (Chair 9) servicing four cruiser runs. And, for Alan Courtney of Denver, those four runs are just what the doctor ordered. "I've been coming up here for 13 years, and this is by far the best early-season start I've ever experienced," Courtney claims. "Skiing up here is just plain fun. Everyone is in a good mood, and there is nothing but smiles and great snow."

Among those craving an early start to the 2002-03 season at Loveland is the Aspen Valley Ski Club (AVSC). AVSC's coach, Casey Puckett, a four-time Olympian, said Loveland's conditions are exactly what his team is looking for. Puckett retired from the U.S. Ski Team in March, but continues to be dedicated to the sport. "Our team's goal (at Loveland) is to get some mileage in," Puckett said. "We want to get on skis, and the conditions at Loveland are perfect for working on our fundamental drills."

According to Loveland's Events Manager, Ken Kelley, pre-season skiing doesn't get much better than the conditions Loveland is offering. "Early season skiing is fun," Kelley remarked. "We get people up here that are just happy to be skiing, and if they have a good time now, they'll be back."

With more snow in the forecast, Loveland is set to boast the best early-season skiing in recent years, and you know what they say, any skiing is great skiing.
