What defines that Volant feel? It’s all about the steel. But don’t think you need to be Rosie the Riveter to ski the Vertex Silver: Only the cap of the ski is made from high grade steel. The core is Densolite, a high-tech foam that’s lighter than wood. The forward-mounted Neox binding—which returns this season after a 1.1-pound weight loss—contributes to the ski’s slimmed-down package. What you gain is the feeling of a damp, predictable ski that will generate ample rebound if pushed. The Vertex Silver gets high marks for Powder and Forgiveness—two characteristics typically attributed to lightweight skis. Harvey calls it "a heavy ski to lift, but it skis light and smooth."
