Volkl Grizzly (2009)
The new Grizzly offers dial-a-ride adjustability on a wide platform. At 89 mm, it once would have been considered strictly a powder ski. It's not the quickest edge to edge in the category, but its edge-grip is unsurpassed. Völkl employs the Marker Duke/Jester binding heel. Its wide footprint enhances leverage. Meanwhile, the three-position Powerswitch lets the skier stiffen or soften the ski with the spin of a dial. "Great at speed but not for the meek," said Schoff.
Best For
Power arcs on soft groomers
Not For
Too burly to be playful in powder
