Volkl Katana (2009)
The new Katana may be excessive in overall size, but it takes a conservative approach to camber. It isn't quite reverse-cambered, but it's flat enough to have an easygoing, surfy feel that makes you look good in powder. Testers loved it, referring repeatedly to its versatility. Experts will love the power, but it's a true "cheater" ski for intermediate powder skiers looking to improve. "Power and finesse in one ski," said Preston. "Smears in powder but can carve on groomers."
