Volkl Mantra (2012)
Tester's Review
Don't worry, it still hammers long arcs like a double-wide GS race ski when you want to. But a dose of tip rocker brings the Mantra up to date just as it was beginning to feel a little unwieldy. All that Mantra power is still there-vertical sidewalls, two sheets of metal, wood core-but the new looseness in the tip enhances its already considerable crud performance. It's not the quickest ski or the most buoyant in powder, but it puts excitement into everyday skiing. And don't worry about durability: the upper layer of metal is left exposed as the topsheet. "A benchmark for the genre," said Hogen.
