Canadians Sweep Super Series Slalom at Deer Valley

Deer Valley, UT Feb. 8--Canadian skiers - blanked 24 hours earlier when Kristina Koznick led a 1-2-3 U.S. sweep - returned the favorTuesday and swept the slalom podium as the Super Series Finals movedthrough Day Two at Deer Valley Resort. However, teen sensation JuliaMancuso (Tahoe City, CA) moved into the overall Super Series pointslead.

Emily Brydon of Canada, fifth in the slalom Monday as four days ofSuper Series Finals got underway in bright sunshine, was nearly twoseconds ahead after the first run Tuesday and went on to win in 1:28.14.Katerina Tichy was second in 1:31.17 with Genevieve Simard third with a1:31.39 clocking.

Top American was Mancuso, who fell Monday but made a spectacular save atthe bottom of her first run Tuesday and went on to finish fourth with atwo-run time of 1:31.93. Tatum Skoglund (Bellevue, WA) was fifth in1:32.04. Mancuso now leads the series with 294 points.

"For me, the highlight of the day was Julia's recovery on the firstrun. On the last three gates, she was really, really late and thenthrough athleticism and determination she tucked herself into a ball andthrew herself over the finish," said U.S. Coach Todd Brickson.

The Super Series, the highest level of racing in this country below theWorld Cup, moves to nearby Park City Mountain Resort for the next twodays when the women will race giant slalom each day.
