Newry, Maine Mar. 1, 2002 (USSA)--Dane Spencer (Boise, Idaho) led a U.S. sweep of the top four positions in the final giant slalom race of the Chevy Truck Super Series under overcast skies at Sunday River.

The Outdoor Life Network will broadcast coverage of the Chevy Truck Super Series Finals on Thursday, March 14 at 8 p.m. (EST) and Thursday, March 21 at 8 p.m. (EST).

Spencer, who was third in Thursday's giant slalom, skied to a .83 second victory over fellow U.S. Ski Team and 2002 Olympic teammates Tom Rothrock (Cashmere, Wash.) in second, Erik Schlopy (Park City, Utah) in third and Chip Knight (Stowe, Vt.) in fourth. Canada's Julien Cousineau rounded out the top five. For the second straight day, Greg Hardy (West Wardsborough, Vt.), a member of the U.S. Development Ski Team, was the top junior, finishing 20th.

"The first course was turny, really turny," Spencer said. "But I ran second so it was fairly smooth. The second course was much faster and one of the most enjoyable courses I have skied lately. It was more my style and I was able to put down a solid run and distance myself from the rest of the guys."

With one race remaining, Schlopy has 148 points toward the overall $10,000 Super Series title. Knight is second with 141, while Tom Rothrock (Cashmere, Wash.) is third with 130. Race winners receive 30 points toward the overall title, while second receives 29 and third 28 down to one point for 30th. The overall title will be awarded following Saturday's slalom, which will also take place on Sunday River's Obsession Trail. First run will start at 9:30 a.m., second at 1 p.m.

After winning Wednesday and Thursday's giant slalom races, and placing third today, Schlopy won the overall Chevy Truck Super Series giant slalom title. He's also in the drivers seat to win the Super Series slalom crown as well after winning the first two slaloms of the season at the Nature Valley Alpine Cup at Loveland Ski Area in November.

The Chevy Truck Super Series is the U.S. portion of the FIS NorAm Cup, one of five International Ski Federation Continental Cup series worldwide (others: Europa Cup, South America Cup, Australia/New Zealand Cup and Far East Cup). The top two overall athletes in the NorAm standings in each of the four disciplines (slalom, giant slalom, super-G and downhill) earn World Cup starting positions for the following season.
