Heavenly Mountain Resort, Lake Tahoe, CA/NV March 30, 2004 — The ultimate ski challenge comes to Heavenly's as Glen Plake's Gunbarrel 25 makes its way to the resort, April 10, 2004. Heavenly's Ski-E-O and legendary freestyle skier, Glen Plake will host the first-ever Gunbarrel 25, an event in which skiers and riders challenge each other to see who can complete 25 laps on North America's toughest black-diamond bump run — Gunbarrel. From competitive athletes to local "Face Rats" to the weekend bump skier, the event is designed to incorporate Plake's passion for freestyle skiing with Heavenly's legendary spring bumps.

"To bring an event like the Gunbarrel 25 to Heavenly is something I've always wanted to do," says Plake. "This is like one of those events from back in the day when everyone just comes out to have a good 'ol time enjoying what the nature of the sport is all about."

As one of the most recognizable skiers in the world, Plake began skiing Heavenly in 1968 as a member of the resort's The Blue Angels race team. At the same time, Heavenly became the epicenter for a new sport called "hotdogging"… now referred to as freestyle skiing. The resort hosted several major freestyle events, including the Chevy Freestyle Tour, throughout the mid 1970's. It was watching those competitions that Plake fell in love with the new sport and began building his path to stardom. Thanks to endless runs on the resort's famous Gunbarrel, he blossomed into a nationally recognized mogul skier and was invited to join the U.S. Ski Team in 1985. However, due to a lack of funding, his Olympic dreams were never realized. Plake instead returned to the free-spirited sport of "hotdog" skiing, and has since become an international ski icon.

Participants of the Gunbarrel 25 will have the opportunity to ski with Plake, as well as compete for the first-place prize. The person to complete the most laps within the given timeframe will have their name engraved on the shotgun trophy to be displayed inside Heavenly's California Lodge. All finishers will receive a commemorative pin designed by Glen himself.

The race commences at 10am on Saturday, April 10, and lasts until 4pm. The cost is $20 and includes a commemorative pin, t-shirt and all-you-can-eat spaghetti feed inside the California Lodge following the race.
