From the Ground Up, Keep Your Eyes On The Prize

From the Ground Up, Keep Your Eyes On The Prize

Instruction
By Stu Campbell

Let your gaze roam too high or low, and you'll lose your balance.

About one-sixth of your body weight rests in your head, so a nod or a cock of it can throw you off balance. It helps to think of your eyes, head and shoulders as a single unit. Look down too much and your chin drops, forcing your weight forward (A). Concentrate on looking up and ahead, but not to the extent that your neck and shoulders stiffen, forcing you to rock back on your heels (B). Rather, let your neck and shoulders round and soften (C). Softness here encourages an athletic stance, allowing you to make flowing turns (D).
